Day 1 - Journey to the Waorani Territory

Your Amazon adventure begins as you arrive at the Coca airport, where you'll be greeted by your personal guide. You'll directly proceed to the runway again, where you board a small charter plane for a breathtaking one-hour flight over a vast expanse of untouched rainforest, heading deep into Yasuní National Park to the remote Waorani village of Bameno, that is almost completely disconnected from civilization. Upon landing, you'll be warmly welcomed by your Waorani hosts.

After a brief introduction to the village, embark on an adventurous motorized canoe journey along the Cononaco River to the Waorani campsite. Your guide will already be on the lookout for anacondas along the riverbanks! After settling into your rustic yet comfortable tented camp and enjoying lunch, join your Waorani guide for an introductory walk into the surrounding primary forest. Learn about the incredible biodiversity, medicinal plants, and the Waorani way of life, always keeping an eye out for monkeys, peccaries, and other fascinating wildlife.

Day 2: Waorani Life: Clay Licks, Elder Wisdom & River Exploration

Awaken to the sounds of the deep rainforest. After breakfast, journey by river and then on foot to a vital bird and mammal clay lick, a hub of wildlife activity where you might observe various species. The adventure continues with a fascinating 3-hour trek through pristine virgin rainforest to a tiny, traditional Waorani settlement, home to your guide’s elders. Here, you'll gain a rare insight into the ancestral way of life of one of the Amazon's most isolated cultures, sharing lunch in this unique setting.

The return canoe trip to the campsite offers more opportunities to scan the riverbanks for anacondas and other wildlife. You might enjoy a refreshing swim in the Cononaco River. After dinner, choose between an atmospheric night hike into the jungle or a quiet motorized canoe ride, listening to the nocturnal symphony of the Amazon.

Day 3 - The Anaconda Quest & Hidden Lakes

Today is dedicated to the exhilarating search for one of the Amazon's most iconic creatures – the anaconda. After an early breakfast, your expert Waorani guides will lead you on a challenging walk to a hidden forest lake, a prime habitat for these magnificent snakes. Tread carefully along the lake's edges and explore nearby swamps and small streams, where your guides will use their ancestral knowledge to track these elusive giants. While sightings are never guaranteed, the thrill of the search in this remote wilderness is an adventure in itself.

After lunch back at the camp and a short rest, you'll venture out again for another jungle exploration, further honing your tracking skills. As darkness falls, you can opt for another chance to look for caimans by canoe or embark on an intriguing night walk to discover the forest's nocturnal inhabitants.

Day 4 - Deeper into the Wild & Waorani Skills

Embrace another early start to maximize your wildlife encounters. Today, you'll venture back into the forest, perhaps to a different salt lick, hoping to witness parrots, macaws, and other diverse wildlife. Your Waorani guides will continue to share their incredible knowledge of the jungle, pointing out subtle tracks, medicinal plants, and survival techniques, always keeping an eye out for any signs of anacondas or other interesting creatures. Return to camp for lunch, and if you wish, enjoy a swim in the Rio Cononaco.

In the afternoon, take another exploratory walk, delving deeper into the rainforest's secrets and absorbing the Waorani perspective on this complex ecosystem. After dinner, a final short night walk offers one last chance to experience the magic of the nocturnal Amazon at the Waorani territory.

Day 5 - Return back to Coca & Journey to the Sinchi Wayra Kichwa Lodge

After a final rainforest breakfast at the Waorani camp, it's time to pack your belongings. Embark on the motorized canoe journey back to the Bameno airstrip and from there back to Coca, where you'll be transferred to the bustling river port. Embark on another scenic 2.5-hour motorized canoe journey down the majestic Napo River to Sinchi Wayra, keeping an eye out for riverside wildlife.

Upon arrival at the Sinchi Wayra Lodge, home to a welcoming Kichwa community, settle into your private room. This afternoon, your expert guide will lead you onto the Anaconda Back Trail for a thrilling 1-2 hour introduction to the rainforest. As dusk approaches, learn about the intricate ecosystem, walk on the backs of fallen palm trees in this wet forest, and perhaps spot your first Amazonian creatures.

After dinner, in the dark, we set off with flashlights on a winding trail to discover numerous nocturnal species, from bizarre insects, exotic frogs and toads, to small snakes.

Day 6 - Parrot Clay Licks, Giant Trees & Rainforest Immersion

An early start rewards you with an unforgettable spectacle: a visit to a parrot clay lick. From the comfort of our canoe, watch as multiple species of parrots and parakeets gather to eat clay from the cliffside, a vibrant natural display.

Afterwards, embark on a wilderness hike into the primary rainforest. Your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to some of the largest, most ancient trees in the jungle, sacred to the local Kichwa community, and share insights into the traditional uses of native plants. Keep your eyes peeled for some of Yasuní’s unique monkey species. Later, marvel at the sight of colourful Blue and Yellow Macaws at their gathering spot, a truly breathtaking nature moment.

Day 7 - Kichwa Culture, Canopy Views & Nighttime Caiman Spotting

Immerse yourself in Kichwa culture today. After breakfast, visit the local Sani community center and women's organization. Stroll through a garden of medicinal plants and traditional foods, learning about their age-old uses. You'll have the unique opportunity to learn about traditional food preparation and even try your hand at cooking with the community women. This is a great chance to support the local artisans by browsing their beautiful handicrafts.

In the afternoon, we take another short walk through the rainforest and reach the Yasuní canopy tower on a small hill. The tower is 40 m / 130 ft high and overlooks the treetops of the rainforest, giving you a breathtaking view over the endless vastness of the Amazon and the Napo River. We spot monkeys and birds in the nearby trees and end the day with a beautiful sunset before heading back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 8 - Panacocha Lagoon, Realm of Pink River Dolphins

Prepare for a full-day expedition to the enchanting Panacocha Lagoon, a large blackwater lake renowned for its exceptional wildlife density. The journey itself, about an hour and a half from the lodge, is an adventure. Panacocha is one of the best places in the Amazon to spot the legendary Pink River Dolphins – a truly magical sight if you encounter these elusive creatures.

Enjoy a packed lunch amidst this stunning natural setting, keeping an eye out for a myriad of bird species and other rainforest inhabitants. Later, try your hand at traditional piranha fishing for a bit of local angling fun before returning to the lodge in the late afternoon

Day 9 - Kichwa Farewell & Return to Coca

After a final Amazonian breakfast at the Kichwa lodge and perhaps some early morning birdwatching, say goodbye to the family and board the motorized canoe that takes us back to civilization in Coca. If you have one of the morning flights to Quito, we will take you to the airport on time. We thank you for visiting Sinchi Wayra and the Waorani tribe! Your visit helps our Amazonian tribes to stay independent and our vision of protecting this unique rainforest.

You can get to Coca (OCC) either by bus or by a 35 minute flight from Quito, where we will start our 2.5 hour transfer to the Sinchi Wayra lodge by motorized canoes.

We recommend Aeroregional (https://aeroregional.net) as airline, that offers flights for around 90$ one way. The other airline flying from Quito (UIO) to Coca (OCC) is LATAM.

If you prefer bus, we recommend Cooperativa de Transportes Baños (https://www.cooperativabanos.com.ec).

Transportation to Coca is not included in the tour.

We will pick you up around 10:00 in the morning at the airport or directly at the pier in Coca. We will get in touch with you few days before your arrival to coordinate the pickup with your flight/bus schedule.

We will depart at the lodge at sunrise with our motorized canoes and will arrive in Coca around 10:00 in the morning and bring you to the airport if needed. If your flight schedule requires you to be at the airport earlier, we can align our departure from the lodge accordingly.

No, our power supply does not allow this, unfortunately. There is no electricity after 10 PM, but the temperatures are not so stifling and absolutely okay for a restful sleep for most of our guests. Unless you are particularly sensitive, we recommend you take a battery-powered fan with you.

Unfortunately, our power supply does not currently allow us to prepare hot water and the clear shower water is at ambient temperature. With the warm temperatures in the rainforest, a refreshing shower is very welcome for most of our guests and therefore you won't freeze when showering.
